About the Real FENZ Firefighter Aptitude Test

The FENZ firefighter selection process includes a written aptitude test designed to assess whether applicants have the cognitive skills required for complex, high-pressure firefighting decisions. The test covers two main sections:

Important: FENZ firefighter recruitment is highly competitive. Hundreds of applicants compete for a small number of positions each intake. The aptitude test is one of the first elimination stages — failing means missing that entire recruitment round and waiting for the next one, which may be months away.

Why Mechanical Comprehension Matters Most

The mechanical comprehension section catches many applicants off-guard. Most people haven't studied levers, pulleys, or gear ratios since school — if at all. Questions require understanding of physical principles applied to firefighting equipment: ladder angles, hose pressures, pump speeds, and hydraulic spreaders.

This section cannot be bluffed. It requires familiarity with the underlying concepts. TestReady's mechanical questions explain every answer in plain English so you understand the principle, not just the answer.

The official FENZ site provides no practice aptitude questions. TestReady provides questions across both sections with full step-by-step explanations.
