Start Free Practice TestThe FENZ firefighter selection process includes a written aptitude test designed to assess whether applicants have the cognitive skills required for complex, high-pressure firefighting decisions. The test covers two main sections:
The mechanical comprehension section catches many applicants off-guard. Most people haven't studied levers, pulleys, or gear ratios since school — if at all. Questions require understanding of physical principles applied to firefighting equipment: ladder angles, hose pressures, pump speeds, and hydraulic spreaders.
