About the Real NZDF Aptitude Test
The NZDF aptitude test (Armed Forces Aptitude Test) is a key stage of recruitment for the NZ Army, Royal New Zealand Navy, and Royal New Zealand Air Force. Your score determines which trades and roles you qualify for — a higher score opens more career pathways.
The test covers four sections:
- Numerical Ability — arithmetic, number sequences, percentages, ratios, map scales, speed/distance/time, and word problems
- Inductive Reasoning — finding rules in sequences of numbers, letters, and shapes; identifying the odd one out
- Deductive Reasoning — applying written rules to reach logical conclusions; syllogisms and conditional reasoning
- Mechanical Reasoning — levers, pulleys, gears, hydraulics, springs, and basic physics in practical military scenarios
Important: The NZDF aptitude score is used to match you to eligible roles. A low score doesn't just mean rejection — it limits your career options. Your score history follows your application, so performing well the first time maximises your choices.
The NZDF provides no official practice questions. Inductive and deductive reasoning sections catch many applicants off-guard because they've never seen these question types before. TestReady provides 60 questions across all four sections with full explanations.
